Flowserve to Provide New Deep-Well Submersible Pump and Motor to German Geothermal Power Plant

Innovative Flowserve Pump and Converter to Help Germany Meet its Renewable Energy Goals

Flowserve Corporation (NYSE:FLS), a leading provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, today announced it was awarded a contract to provide a new deep-well submersible pump and motor to the Germany-based geothermal power plant, Geothermische Kraftwerksgesellschaft Traunreut.

Developed in conjunction with the German government, this innovative, high-energy submersible motor took approximately four years to commercialize and is designed to help Germany meet its renewable energy goals. The order was booked in September.

With a motor size of 850 kW (1,140 hp) and a flow rate of 130 l/s (2,060 GPM), this highly-engineered, vertical pump and oil-filled motor is designed to be installed at a depth of 600 m (2,000 ft) and used to pump water with temperatures up to 140°C (285°F). Once the geothermal fluids reach the surface, the steam produced in a secondary circuit will be used to turn the turbines that generate electricity, creating a renewable and environmentally-friendly source of power. The planned geothermal power plant will generate electricity and heat to the district with a capacity of up to 5.5 MW of electrical power and a maximum of 12 MW of thermal energy.

The binary cycle geothermal plant is expected to come online and deliver heat during the fourth quarter of 2013 and electricity by the end of 2013.
